Fatal motorcycle accident involving stray dog uncovers man’s secret relationship; wife identifies body

A young couple riding on a motorcycle died and a one and half year old child received injuries when the motorcycle ran over a stray dog and toppled at Beligamuwa in Galewela.

When the police informed the addresses of the deceased, it came to light that the deceased were not a married couple. Investigations revealed that they had left their homes secretly. The wife of the person killed in the accident, who called over at the police station, identified her deceased husband.

The injured child was admitted to the Dambulla Base Hospital.

The deceased Jagath Kumara Piyatissa (31) and Ahinsa Abeyratne (28) were residents of Dehiattakandiya area. Investigations revealed that they were on their way to Kurunegala when they met with an accident.

The motorcycle that veered off the road had fallen into a wayside canal. The dog involved in the accident had died.

Galewela Police are conducting further investigations.
