Ella Odyssey ticket fraud: Trishaw driver arrested for selling Rs. 4,000 worth ticket at Rs. 28,000

A trishaw driver who sold two tickets valued at Rs. 4,000 for the Ella Odyssey Express from Kandy to a female tourist for Rs. 28,000 was arrested yesterday by Kandy Division Crime Investigation Unit.   

A police team that entered the train on information received by SSP Anuruddha Bandaranayaka from the State Intelligence recorded the statements of the two tourists that they purchased the two e- Tickets for Rs.28,000 through a middleman.

Investigations revealed that a driver engaging in tourism had sold the two tickets to the tourists through a trishaw driver. Under interrogation, the trishaw driver stated that he received a commission of Rs. 5000 per ticket. A senior official of the Kandy Crime Investigation Unit said further investigations would be handed over to the CID.
