The Colombo High Court yesterday ordered that steps be taken to provide newspapers to Nadun Chinthaka, alias Harak Kata, who is currently detained at Tangalle Prison.

When the case against Harak Kata was taken up today before Colombo High Court Judge Sujeewa Nissanka, Counsel Sanjiya Ariyadasa, appearing for Harak Kata, stated that despite a previous court order, the authorities had failed to implement the directive to provide newspapers to the accused.

At that time, the State Counsel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General informed the court that there was some difficulty in providing daily newspapers, but steps would be taken to ensure that newspapers are made available.

The Attorney General has filed indictments against three accused, including a Police Constable, who allegedly aided and abetted Harak Kata’s escape from CID custody in 2023.
