Chaminda Wijesiri plays video on Aragalaya, accuses ministers of double standards over aragalaya role

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri yesterday (11) accused several ministers in the present government of hypocrisy, alleging that they had once attempted to destroy Parliament during the 2022 Aragalaya but were now calling for decorum in the House.  

Raising the matter in Parliament, MP Wijesiri played a video clip related to the Aragalaya. He later claimed the video had been played accidentally but used the opportunity to question the conduct of certain ministers.  

“We saw ministers calling for discipline in the House today. But these are the same individuals who tried to set fire to Parliament in 2022. What happened in Nepal recently almost happened here as well,” he told the chamber.  

Wijesiri alleged that among those present near Parliament during the height of the protests were current ministers . “They wanted the parliamentary complex destroyed. Fortunately, law and order was restored in time and the institution was saved,” he added.
