One of the three persons, who were allegedly attacked with a plate by Jaffna District Parliamentarian Dr. Ramanathan Archchuna at hotel Valampuri in Jaffna, has undergone surgery on his head, hospital sources said.
Three individuals, including a businessman, were reportedly attacked by Jaffna District Parliamentarian Dr. Ramanathan Archchuna. The victims were admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, where one required surgery for head injuries sustained during the altercation.
According to the Jaffna Police, the incident unfolded on Tuesday night when Dr. Archchuna began recording a dispute at the hotel. The two individuals who were later attacked objected to the video recording, which allegedly provoked the MP to strike one of them with a plate.
Witnesses at the hotel intervened in an attempt to calm the MP, who was reported to be behaving aggressively during the confrontation. Following the incident, the victims filed a formal complaint with the Jaffna Police, prompting an investigation into the matter. Dr. Archchuna is currently hospitalized, claiming that he was also attacked during the incident.
Earlier incident, the same MP has faced allegations of violence; he is currently involved in a legal case from a March 2021 incident in which he allegedly assaulted and seriously injured a motorist on Baseline Road in Borella.
