The 13th South Asian Games winners of the Sri Lanka Army were felicitated during a ceremony held yesterday at the Army Headquarters under the patronage of Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva. The army team won 85 medals. The army commander is seen with Dilshi Kumarasinghe, who won three gold medals.

We Sri Lankans are not known to heed warnings or to follow simple instructions. This is clearly evident from what is happening along the Wellawata Beach these days when people visit the place to take a glimpse of the marooned seal that is resting among the boulders. The mammal is being protected by the police environment unit and wildlife officers from the crowds trying to take photos and selfies.

The Sri Lankan team which participated in 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu, Nepal, arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night. Sri Lanka placed 3rd with 40 gold medals, 82 silver medals and 128 bronze medals, bringing the total medals to 250.

More than half a million hermit crabs have died after being trapped in plastic bottles and other rubbish on two remote islands. The number killed is equivalent to one to two crabs per square metre of beach – a significant percentage of the population, according to researchers. (Daily Mail)

Several roads in the Colombo city and suburbs were flooded due to heavy rains in Colombo this afternoon. The road near Colombo Public Library, tennis courts, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha and around Viharamahadevi Park was underwater. Heavy traffic was reported in the area due to flood.
