Motorists and Pedestrians today were surprised to see hundreds of policewomen standing embarrassingly on the road displaying boards on new lane rules while only male officers directed the traffic. Given the fact that there were policewomen manning traffic on other days one wonders as to whose decision it was to make policewomen stand like mannequins on the road today while only men directed traffic. Five Officers and 295 Other Ranks of the elite Special Forces (SF) who followed the intensive nine-month long Training Course at Maduru Oya were passed out yesterday during a ceremony attended by Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva. The Jathika Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today organized a protest against the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution in front of the statue of late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera. SJB MPs including its leader Sajith Premadasa and a group of supporters participated in the event.

A group of school children were seen taking a boat from Battaramulla to reach their schools in Wellawatta. The boat service which was launched by the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) in collaboration with the SL Navy is popular among the school children. The fee for the boat ride from Battaramulla to Wellawatta is Rs.100 per person.
