A historic religious and cultural event took place in Thailand as a group of 50 Sri Lankan women visited the Kingdom to undertake the temporary observation of the Ten Precepts (Dasa-Sila), marking one of the first occasions in recent years that a Sri Lankan women’s group participated in such a spiritual programme in Thailand.
The ceremony was held, in celebration of International Women’s Day, under the guidance of Most Ven. Phrasamu Pairoj Obhaso Thero, Chief Incumbent of the renowned Wat Dhammamongkol Temple in Bangkok. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, who served as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of spiritual exchange and the longstanding religious and cultural ties between the two countries.
The programme offered the Sri Lankan participants an opportunity to experience Thailand’s Buddhist monastic traditions and deepen their spiritual practice while observing the Ten Precepts.
Following the ceremony, the group traveled to Wat Pa Somdej Phra Yanavachirodom in the serene surroundings of Chiang Mai Province, where they will spend 49 days (seven weeks) learning and practicing Buddhist meditation under the guidance of resident monks.
