The official ceremony to mark the 76th Independence Day of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka got off the ground at the Galle Face Green this morning Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as the guest of honour. The event saw the participation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, visiting foreign dignitaries, diplomats, military personnel, religious leaders and politicians. This should have been a civil ceremony, but not an occasion to show off our non existent armed forces and top brass in fancy dresses. They appear to be so unfit, and would not have been able to run a few yards, if there happened to have been a stampede for any unknown reason................ Independence was a result of a non violent civil society effort at the time, but certainly not by any armed forces.

Unelected master debating president is too busy to adjust his trousers before entering to master debate normal folks on Independence Day before spending one night stand on mile high club. Some girls and boys wearing fancy dresses are celebrating so called Independence Day with pomp and pride while majority of people ; men , women and children are struggling to lead decent lives without enough food, clothes, medicine and other basic necessities in a godforsaken lawless bankrupt country called Sri Lanka.Shame on you guys…!!

The scale of the events is too much. The needless preparation for the shows, indicates the politicians in power have lost track of what is relevant to the public. They parade like barons of old, while the public suffer for the expenditures.

Why steak money from the poor to have extravagant displays for politicians and their friends? How much fuel was wasted for this entertainment for politicians? We need to do away with politicians who think they are kings, politicians are votes in to serve the people, not the other way round, these criminals make it impossible for the poor to live, so they turn to selling drugs or their bodies, or being sold into slavery by foreign bureau into countries that abuse female workers, rape, assaults, with holding pay, being held for ransom, just so these dirty politicians can feel special?
