Rice shortage, coconut shortage, salt shortage, Green Chilies at 1800 a kilo. Though they blame it on the bad weather, reduced production and transportation costs it shows that the agriculture and food supply chain is broken. No proper leadership and direction. Importing as a stop gap have made many middlemen and politicians rich, creating an artificial shortage and it has become more convenient to import from India than fix the broken system which would have otherwise made Sri Lanka self sufficient and helped create an export market.
