New Year festivities in Malaysia

A Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration organized by the Universal Varuna Youth Club for Sri Lankans living in the Batu Pahat area of Malaysia attracted a large crowd, including officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Malaysia.

The ceremony, inaugurated with a milk pouring ritual, featured a range of traditional New Year games, with the beauty pageant emerging as the highlight of the event. Mishanthi Kausalya was crowned beauty queen, while Krishnan Dhanusiya from Negombo secured second place. Ramesh Ajantha (29) from Galle won the male category title of Avurudu Kumara.
