The bridge at the Kollupitiya railway station poses a great threat to pedestrians as it is in a very dilapidated state. There are large holes on the corroded roof that pose threats of passers-by being hit by falling pieces of the structure. Pix by Kithsiri de Mel

  • This bridge is building no bridges with the public Monday, 27 November 2023 12:01 PM

Looks like this bridge has seen no maintenance since I left Colombo in 1987. Safety of pedestrians is number one priority.

Foomy Mohamed Monday, 27 November 2023 05:58 PM

This is the state of affair. Please increase the MPs salaries

    joshua Monday, 27 November 2023 12:34 PM

    looks like cassandra crossing :)

    Karu Monday, 27 November 2023 01:06 PM

They won't fix it until some people were dead. After accident, they will send the inquiry team and arrange a commission to inspect all the public bridges in Colombo(but only this one needed to fix immediately) and also they have to settle down the payments to beneficiaries. AFTER ALL THESE CRAP finally all the expenses will be 100 times higher than simply fixing this bridge before when it comes to their attention.

    Corruption at it's best

    Ram Monday, 27 November 2023 01:52 PM

Please wait till someone injure herself/himself. Put the blame on the successive governments and or GMRs for lack of attention in maintenance

Be Fair Monday, 27 November 2023 03:15 PM

Sad state indeed. We need to blame ourselves, appointing corrupt, uneducated people to the Parliament. Cant blame them when things go wrong. Thats my take

    vithura Monday, 27 November 2023 04:36 PM

Voters themselves are to be blamed for the choices they made in the past. Though sad, they made their bed so they have no choice but to lie in it.

    Fred Monday, 27 November 2023 04:40 PM

There must be engineers assigned to look after these places an MP for the area, councillors for the ward ,good to get their explanations. What is the budget allocation for such work how was it spent who inspects, such basic questions will give the answers no need to waste time with committees maybe public officials MPS should use public transport more often to gauge the true picture

    Rohan Monday, 27 November 2023 05:10 PM

Appoint another Committee to look into this overpass

    Grace Monday, 27 November 2023 07:42 PM

This is one of the achievement made in 75 years. A committee will be appointed only after some people die.

    sara Monday, 27 November 2023 06:25 PM

The politicians spent lots of moeny to travell oveseas at tax payers expense, see what they are doing for the public - sad

    ajith Monday, 27 November 2023 06:58 PM

When somebody falls directly to the tracks through the bridge, politicians will wake up.

Disaster Management Center Monday, 27 November 2023 08:48 PM

Same as Dutugamunu and Lichchavi combination.

    Mohammed Monday, 27 November 2023 11:08 PM

If Kollupitiya is like this imagine interior.

Tissa Fernando Tuesday, 28 November 2023 06:37 AM

Low Quality of work of Premadasa. Did not last long.

Jeewes Jupiter Tuesday, 28 November 2023 09:02 AM

So THIS is what the tax-payer's hard earned money is getting us?????? This sort of thing has to be expected when unqualified buffaloes who are only greedy to fill up their pockets and their guts are elected to parliament!!! Now lets appoint ANOTHER committee to look into this manner and waste more time and money!

    Nihal S Tuesday, 28 November 2023 10:17 AM

The budget increased the resources to maintain former Presidents, and Ranil keeps going on foreign tours at tax payers expense. No funds to safeguard public.

    Amaran Tuesday, 28 November 2023 10:37 AM

IF such negligence happens in COLOMBO, anyone could imagine the extend of negligence in outer Colombo.
