The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headed by President Maitripala Sirisena and its newly appointed officials are contemplating the termination of its political affiliation with the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), informed sources said yesterday.

The National Freedom Front (NFF), a constituent party of the UPFA, today claimed that it would take legal action against former UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha for including defeated candidates in the party’s national list replacing the original nominees.

Former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said it was sad to see the JVP being wiped out at the August 17 general election. Mr. Amarasinghe said the main reason for the debacle was that the JVP was toeing the UNP agenda.

The UPFA today finalised the party’s National List and sent it to the Elections Commissioner. S.B. Dissanayake, Thilanga Sumathipala, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane and Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa had made it to parliament through the list.
