  • Together with Rotary donates 20 bicycles to WSMEs through Hope on Wheels initiative

The Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) screened 20 women-owned small and medium enterprises (WSMEs) to benefit from the Rotary Hope on Wheels project.

The certificates of the offer were handed over to the recipients in a simple ceremony at Hotel Thinnai in Jaffna.

Upon presenting the certificate, they will collect the bicycle that would support their respective entrepreneur’s journey.

Rotary Club Jaffna President Rtn G. Vishvaruban, Secretary Rtn A. Anojan along with several other Rotarians joined the ceremony.

On behalf of the WCIC, CEO Chitranjali Dissnayake, Board Member Tusitha Kumarakulasingam and WCIC Northern Chapter Manager Thuvaraka Prashanthan were present.

Bicycles are a common and considered a valuable mode of transport for people in Jaffna. With the Hope on Wheels project, Rotary aims to empower the recipient. The WSMEs selected for the initiative will use the bicycle to support their entrepreneurial efforts and the WCIC intend to track how it will happen.

The WCIC is the national chamber of Sri Lanka and the premier organisation supporting women entrepreneurs and professional businesswomen. The membership is open to women who believe they can contribute to society as well as benefit from the many facilities the organisation creates. The WCIC Northern Chapter will be dedicated to provide direct support to all the women entrepreneurs in the North to enhance their contribution to the Sri Lankan economy.
