Eresha Kumburulanda (Head of Legal, Compliance and Sustainability – VBLL), K.V.R. Samantha Gunasekara (Chairman – MEPA), and representatives from both organizations at the ceremonial launch of the Kalutara New Born Coast adoption program
Varun Beverages Lanka (Pvt) Ltd (VBLL) has entered into an agreement with the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) to adopt and maintain the coastal stretch for one year. This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable coastal conservation and responsible waste management
As part of the adoption, VBLL installed customized waste bins across the beach to enable the proper segregation and collection of PET bottles, glass, and other waste, encouraging responsible disposal and supporting recycling efforts. In addition, a dedicated caretaker has been assigned to ensure the regular cleaning and maintenance of the adopted coastal area, helping to preserve the beach’s natural beauty and create a safer environment for visitors and marine life.
To mark the launch, VBLL organized an inauguration ceremony together with a large-scale beach cleanup campaign in collaboration with the University of Kelaniya. The program engaged students, volunteers, and community members in environmental conservation while raising awareness about the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems.
