VOLT-Keells bring 1st commercial EV fast charging station to North

In a move that enhances both accessibility and affordability in Sri Lanka’s evolving transportation landscape, VOLT Charge, the country’s fastest-growing EV charging company and a subsidiary of JAT Holdings PLC, has further strengthened its partnership with Keells Supermarkets by launching the first-ever commercial EV fast charging station in the Northern province.

Located at the Keells store in Jaffna, this landmark installation improves infrastructure for private and commercial EV users in the region and marks a significant expansion of Sri Lanka’s modern mobility network.

The station, equipped with a 30kW Dual Gun (CCS2 & CHAdeMO) DC Fast Charger, is conveniently located, allowing EV users to charge while they shop or run errands.

VOLT Charge Founder, Director and CEO Dr. Beshan Kulapala commented, “Expanding VOLT Charge to the Northern province creates the potential to unlock economic opportunity. As more Sri Lankans look for cost-effective ways to manage transport, EV adoption becomes a practical choice. This installation enables access where it matters most, opening the door to greater economic participation and mobility.”

This installation also builds on a growing collaboration between VOLT Charge and Keells Supermarkets, which now includes 20 charging stations at outlets across the country, from Jaffna to Tangalle. By integrating EV charging into everyday locations, the partnership helps ease the transition to EVs for consumers, reducing range anxiety and increasing the practicality of electric transport.

“Partnering with VOLT Charge to bring the first commercial EV fast charger to the North at our outlet is a significant milestone,” said Keells Supermarkets Head of Commercial and John Keells Group Senior Vice President Mifrah Ismail.

“This installation also marks the 20th charger in our expanding collaboration with VOLT Charge — a testament to our shared commitment to delivering customer value and meeting the evolving needs.”
