Tea production on recovery path with April output up by nearly 5 mn kgs



The tea industry showed renewed momentum in April 2025, with monthly production reaching 26.39 million kilograms, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.93 million kgs from 21.46 million kgs recorded in April 2024, official data showed.

All elevations; High, Mid, and Low Grown, posted gains for the month compared to the same period last year, signalling a broad-based recovery across the sector. When compared to April 2023’s 25.24 million kgs, this year’s output shows a more modest uptick of 1.15 million kgs.

For the first four months of 2025, cumulative tea production stood at 88.38 million kgs, up 8.65 million kgs from 79.73 million kgs recorded during the same period last year. 

Compared to the 84.75 million kgs recorded in the January–April stretch of 2023, the latest cumulative output shows a gain of 3.63 million kgs. While High and Mid Grown teas maintained their upward momentum, the Low Grown segment and Green Tea category posted slight declines relative to 2023 figures.
