Sampath Bank powers Sri Lanka’s digital payment revolution with ‘WePay’

Sampath Bank reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital financial inclusion in Sri Lanka by actively participating in the Digital Payments Promotion Campaign 2025, an initiative launched by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) to drive cashless transactions and economic growth. 

The event held recently at the Magam Ruhunupura Administrative Complex in Hambantota under the theme ‘Shaping the Future through Digital Transactions,’ brought together leading financial institutions. Sampath Bank’s WePay digital payment solution took centre stage as a key player in the country’s digital transformation.

The event saw the presence of key financial decision makers, including Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Senior Deputy Governor K. M. A. N. Daulagala, Deputy Governor. J. P. R. Karunaratne, and Assistant Governor C. P. S. Bandara, who visited the Sampath Bank stall to experience firsthand how WePay is simplifying everyday transactions. 

In a demonstration of its seamless functionality, CBSL officials made purchases using WePay’s QR payment system, showcasing how digital solutions can enhance financial accessibility for businesses and consumers.

Chief Information Officer at Sampath Bank, Ajith Salgado commented on the significance of the initiative, stating, “At Sampath Bank, we have always believed in harnessing technology to make financial services more inclusive and accessible. WePay is more than just a payment solution, it is a step towards empowering Sri Lankans with secure, convenient, and efficient digital transactions.
