MoC inked to strengthen business links

Sri Lanka and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on economic policy dialogue this week at the Finance Ministry.

The agreement, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic engagement, was signed on behalf of Sri Lanka by Trade Ministry Secretary K.A. Vimalenthirarajah and Acting Additional Foreign Affairs Secretary Dharshana M. Perera, and on behalf of Japan by METI Vice Minister Matsuo Takehiko and Foreign Affairs official Murotani Masakatsu.

Officials discussed a roadmap to deepen economic ties, with presentations on Sri Lanka’s foreign investment policy, opportunities for FDI, and plans for an industrial economic corridor. A working group is expected to be established to operationalise the corridor concept.

JETRO and major Japanese firms including Itochu and Mitsui also shared insights on the business environment, as both sides expressed confidence the cooperation would open a new phase in long-standing Sri Lanka–Japan relations.
