Indices close on a mixed note



The ASPI edged down as a result of price losses in counters such as Lion Brewery, Melstacorp and Central Finance Company with the turnover crossing Rs. 1.0 Bn. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 edged up. High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in John Keells Holdings, Hayleys and Sunshine Holdings. Mixed interest was observed in Commercial Credit & Finance, LB Finance and Vallibel Finance whilst retail interest was noted in Tess Agro, Marawila Resorts and Softlogic Holdings. Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers.

The Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Sunshine Holdings and Ceylon Tobacco Company) whilst the sector index closed flat. The share price of Sunshine Holdings increased by Rs 0.20 (0.92%) to close at Rs 22.00. The share price of Ceylon Tobacco Company moved down by Rs 3.75 (0.28%) to close at Rs 1,340.00.

The Diversified Financials sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Commercial Credit & Finance and LB Finance) whilst the sector index decreased by 0.51%. The share price of Commercial Credit & Finance recorded a gain of Rs 0.10 (0.15%) to close at Rs 66.90. The share price of LB Finance appreciated by Rs 0.60 (0.65%) to close at Rs 92.90.

John Keells Holdings was also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of John Keells Holdings gained Rs 0.20 (1.02%) to close at Rs 19.90.
