INSEE-SLINTEC R&D tie-up targets next-gen building materials

INSEE Cement, Sri Lanka’s largest cement manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) to jointly advance innovation and sustainability in the local construction sector.

The partnership is aimed at codeveloping future-ready, low-carbon construction solutions, leveraging the SLINTEC’s scientific expertise and INSEE’s manufacturing scale.

“As the industry leader, INSEE Cement is committed to advancing Sri Lanka’s construction sector through strategic collaborations championing meaningful change. The partnership with the SLINTEC will support to develop low-carbon, future-ready construction solutions ensuring we continue to lead the industry toward a more environmentally responsible future,” said INSEE Cement Chief Operating Officer Thusith Gunawarnasuriya.

The company shared the initiative would support the efforts to enhance its product portfolio by integrating sustainable design and performance excellence, while also helping shape the industry standards amid the rising demand for green construction practices.

Senior officials from both organisations, including INSEE COO Thusith Gunawarnasuriya, Manufacturing Director Sushil Rathore, Director Products and Solutions Portfolio Dr. Moussa Baalbaki and General Manager Quality and Technology Kalinda Dasanayaka, were present at the MoU signing. 

The SLINTEC was represented by Acting CEO Prof. Saman Seneweera, Principal Scientist Dr. Sanjeewa Wijesinghe, Executive Business Development Sewmini Yapa and Research Scientist Nadun Ranepura.

The two organisations said they would combine technical know-how and research capabilities to introduce innovative, eco-conscious solutions that align with the national and global sustainability priorities.

INSEE’s flagship products, INSEE Sanstha and Mahaweli Marine Plus, have been in the market for over five decades, commanding a significant share of the domestic market.
