Global Wellness Day (GWD), the internationally recognised not-for-profit wellness movement, announced the appointment of Cape Weligama – Resplendent Ceylon General Manager Asela Jayaweera as Ambassador for Sri Lanka for the first time.

This appointment marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka as it strengthens its presence within the global wellness community, joining millions worldwide in celebrating GWD on June 13, 2026.  With an accomplished career in luxury hospitality and a strong commitment to holistic well-being, Jayaweera brings valuable leadership and passion to this role. His appointment reflects a shared vision to promote wellness as a way of life—encouraging healthier, more balanced lifestyles across communities.

“I am truly honoured to be appointed as Ambassador for GWD in Sri Lanka,” said Jayaweera.

“This initiative is a powerful reminder that well-being is essential for all and I look forward to inspiring individuals and communities across the country to embrace a more mindful and joyful way of living.”

GWD will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2026 with the inspiring theme #JoyMagenta, inviting people around the world to embrace the transformative power of joy. In today’s fast-paced and often challenging world, #JoyMagenta highlights joy not as a fleeting emotion but as a meaningful and restorative practice that supports emotional well-being, resilience and balance.

Throughout 2026, GWD Ambassadors, supporters and volunteers will encourage communities to consciously practice joy—not only for individual well-being but as a shared source of healing and unity.

The #JoyMagenta theme is brought to life through four guiding pillars:

Joy in Gratitude – Appreciating life’s simple blessings and creating meaningful everyday moments

Joy through Connection – Strengthening relationships through empathy, kindness and shared experiences

Joy in Movement – Encouraging mindful physical activities such as walking, yoga, dancing and stretching

Joy through Creativity – Inspiring self-expression through art, music, cooking, writing and play

Together, these pillars provide a roadmap for living more consciously, compassionately and joyfully.

“Joy is more than happiness — it is a state of harmony between the heart, mind and spirit,” said GWD founder Belgin Aksoyf.

“With #JoyMagenta, we invite people everywhere to rediscover the light within themselves, share it generously and remember that one joyful heart can uplift an entire community.”
