FitsAir officially commenced direct operations between Colombo and Ahmedabad on June 19, 2026, becoming the only airline to offer non-stop flights between the two cities.

Operating three times weekly, the new service strengthens connectivity between Sri Lanka and Western India while offering greater convenience for both leisure and business travellers. Ahmedabad, one of India’s leading commercial centres and the gateway to Gujarat, represents a key market for tourism, trade, and investment.

The inaugural flight marks another milestone in FitsAir’s network expansion strategy. As Sri Lanka’s first privately-owned airline, this reinforces its commitment to enhancing regional connectivity through affordable travel. A special launch ceremony was held to commemorate the occasion, attended by representatives from FitsAir, the travel trade, tourism sector, Walker’s Tours, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, and Cinnamon Life City of Dreams.

Speaking at the launch, FitsAir Executive Director Ammar Kassim highlighted that routes transcend airports by connecting dreams, driving trade, and building partnerships.

He expressed excitement over launching the newest direct service between Colombo and Ahmedabad, noting it is the only non-stop link of its kind and will simplify travel while unlocking new opportunities for economic collaboration between Sri Lanka and Gujarat. Passengers can now book flights through the airline’s website, ticketing office, and authorised travel agents.

The introduction of this direct route significantly alters the competitive landscape for air travel between Colombo and Ahmedabad. Prior to this launch, passengers had to rely on indirect, one-stop flights operated by competitors such as IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines. IndiGo has traditionally served this route with layovers in major Indian cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, resulting in total travel times ranging from seven to over twelve hours depending on the connection. Similarly, SriLankan Airlines has offered indirect options, often involving layovers in New Delhi.

By eliminating the need for layovers, FitsAir’s direct service drastically reduces the journey time to approximately three hours and forty minutes, compared to the eight hours or more typically required on competing indirect routes. This time-saving advantage positions FitsAir highly favourably against IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines, especially for business travellers and tourists seeking quick short-haul getaways. While competitors may still compete on frequency and network reach through their hubs, FitsAir holds a distinct monopoly on the non-stop segment.

Fares on this route fluctuate, with one-way indirect economy tickets previously seen around Rs. 67,499. As FitsAir establishes its presence, the airline’s ability to offer a direct, time-efficient alternative is expected to capture a significant share of the growing demand for travel between Sri Lanka and Gujarat.
