Tea production fell 22% in February from a year earlier, with output declining across all elevations, data from the industry showed.
Production for the month totalled 15.59 million kg, down from 19.99 million kg in February 2024. Compared to February 2023, output declined by 3.16 million kg.
Cumulative tea production for January-February 2025 stood at 37.16 million kg, a 3.6 percent drop from 38.53 million kg in the same period last year. However, High Grown teas recorded a year-on-year increase, while Medium and Low Growns posted declines.
Compared to the first two months of 2023, cumulative production for 2025 showed a marginal decline of 0.07 million kg. Apart from High Growns, all elevations recorded negative variances over the corresponding period.
