Continental Insurance Lanka welcomes two new board members

Continental Insurance Lanka Limited announced the appointment of two professionals, Dr. Naomal Balasuriya and Dr. K. Thiyagarajah Iraivan, to its Board of Directors, effective 23rd April 2025.  

Both individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will be invaluable as the Company continues to expand its market presence and drive innovation.

Dr. Naomal Balasuriya, MBBS, MBA, CIM (UK), MCGP, MSLIM,MIMSL is a medical doctor turned life changing motivational speaker.  Being an entrepreneur backed with over 30 years of extensive experience across multiple fields including medicine, military, management, marketing, mentoring and motivational speaking, he holds the MBBS degree from the North Colombo Medical College, the MBA from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK).

He is a Director of Melsta Health (Pvt) Ltd, Peace of Mind Residencies (Pvt) Ltd, and Success Factory (Pvt) Ltd.  He has also served as a Non Executive Independent Director of Boards of Melstacorp PLC for nine years since its inception and Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC (DCSL for sixteen years and their Board Sub- Committees.

Dr. K. Thiyagarajah Iraivan, holds an MBBS (IND), DFM (UK), FCPM (SL), FCMI (UK)which is an uniquely varied background that includes over two decades of experience in public and international healthcare sector, in both clinical and administration spheres. Continental’s on-going efforts to enhance its leadership team and strengthen its governance framework. 

Dr.  Iravian, completed his medical education in India at Raja Muthiah Medical College, Annamalai University and Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute under Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G. R Medical University.  He holds Postgraduate Qualifications in Hospital Administration and Business Administration and an MBA from the Bucs New University (UK).

He is a life Member of Sri  Medical Association and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Profession Managers of Sri Lanka and Chartered Management Institute (CMI-UK).  He also is a Member of the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka.

Dr. Iravian is the current Director/Chief Executive Officer of Melsta Health (Pvt) Ltd, and he also serves on the Boards of Hospital Management Melsta (Pvt) Ltd, Melsta Healthcare Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, Melsta Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd, Melsta Labs (Pvt) Ltd and Melsta Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd. His past Directorships include Deputy Director Medical Administration at Lanka Hospitals PLC and Chief Executive Officer at Browns Healthcare and Hospitals.

In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Iravian contributes to Academica as a visiting lecturer for both Undergraduate and Master’s streams of hospital facility management at the University of Moratuwa and for Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Quality and Patients Safety at Faculty of the Medicine, University of Colombo.
