Sri Lanka’s integrated environmental management solutions provider, Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd was felicitated as the Sustainability Champion of 2025, a recognition for leadership in sustainable waste management, at the WiLAT Awards organised by the Women’s Forum of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sri Lanka, to recognise the outstanding contributions by women within the logistics industry.
At the event, Cleantech won the award for its pioneering role in establishing regional Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) to enhance recycling in rural areas under the supply chain category.
This win not only showcase the impact of women in sustainability and supply chain, an industry traditionally seen as male-dominated, but also reinforces Cleantech’s brand positioning as Sri Lanka’s leading waste management and circular economy solutions provider, under Abans Group.
Additionally, Kasunika Katukithula of Cleantech was awarded as the runner up for the Best Female Professional, for the initiative taken by her to bridge the gap between sustainability goals and actionable solutions for corporate clients, with a focus on innovation and customer-centric strategies. Accordingly, the to address the challenges concerning reverse logistics effectively, convenient corporate options such as Annual recycling subscriptions, A plastic-neutral program, Zero-waste events, Industry specific workshops on environmental sustainability and Community awareness were introduced.
The Head of Circular Economy services, Kasun Thennakoon, speaking about this achievement, expressed his gratitude towards WiLAT for its recognition of Cleantech’s sustainability efforts, and emphasized that the contribution of the female staff towards this success and Cleantech’s commitment to expanding circular economy solutions cannot be overstated. Furthermore, Tennakoon took the opportunity to highlight the importance of corporate collaboration in achieving sustainability goals, in creating a cleaner, greener and a better environment for all.
With over 20 years of experience in waste management and a portfolio of national and international certifications, Cleantech has established itself as a pioneer in the industry. At the heart of this achievement is the humans who have made this possible, whose lives Cleantech has been able to uplift, many who were previously operating in informal, unsafe conditions. These individuals now benefit from structured training, protective infrastructure, and access to sustainable income opportunities, effectively transforming waste collection into a respected and impactful profession.
Significantly, women have played a leading role in this transformation. From project leadership to on-the-ground operations, Cleantech has prioritized gender inclusion, proving that women are more than just participants in Sri Lanka’s sustainability journey, but are the very leaders of this movement.
