Agro Harvest Cultivation (Pvt.) Ltd announced the launch of its first batch of export-quality vermicompost fertiliser, marking a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s organic agriculture industry.
The new fertiliser production facility, located in Matale, was officially inaugurated recently, introducing a modern, eco-friendly approach to sustainable farming. Equipped with state-of-the-art machinery imported from China, the factory has already produced more than 150 metric tonnes of fertiliser. All production and microbial processing activities are carried out in compliance with both local and international quality standards, ensuring premium-grade organic fertiliser suitable for global markets. Becoming the first Sri Lankan company to export vermicompost fertiliser, Agro Harvest Cultivation has already secured an order of 500 tonnes from the State of Dubai, while several European countries have expressed strong interest in purchasing the product. Negotiations are also underway with China to expand export opportunities. The company has obtained all necessary approvals from the National Plant Quarantine Service, National Fertiliser Secretariat and Agriculture Department to export its fertiliser.
For the local market, distribution has already begun through Agro Harvest Cultivation branches in Negombo, Matara, Akuressa, Matale, Dambulla, Ampara, Dehiattakandiya, Batticaloa and Jaffna, with plans to introduce the product to major supermarket chains across the island. The company also intends to open additional production centres in several regions, creating new employment opportunities for rural communities.
“A significant portion of the global population is suffering from chronic diseases such as kidney failure, cancer and other non-communicable illnesses. The excessive use of chemical substances in food production is a key reason for this,” said Agro Harvest Cultivation senior representative Nalaka Silva.
“Many countries have fully transitioned to organic agriculture and even India now produces over 50 percent of its crops using organic fertilisers. In this context, we are proud to have successfully implemented a long-term plan designed for the well-being of our people.”
Agro Harvest Cultivation remains dedicated to enhancing agricultural productivity, empowering the farming community and promoting environmental sustainability. The company provides a wide range of products and services aimed at supporting both local and international agricultural development.
