The foreign tourists who were visiting national parks including the Yala National Park would be able to pay in dollars to purchase their entrance tickets from January this year, the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry said.
Ministry Secretary Chandra Herath said steps would be taken to initiate this move from the Yala National Park within this month.
Subject Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had instructed the officials to initiate this move as means to earn much needed dollars to the country.
The Minister has also instructed the officials to develop the facilities at the Yala National Park as a larger number of tourists are visiting Yala these days. (Ajith Siriwardana)

No surprise. We will soon have to pay in dollars when we visit Simon Aiya’s street corner grocery store. This is normal when a undeveloped country goes bankrupt.

Make use of few dollars and build wash rooms for visitors, please do not boast about revenue when nothing is given back to the visitor, it’s such a shame to run to the bush after paying to enter.

None of our important Tourist attractions have proper toilet facilities. We charge a hefty amount but don't give the basics.

Please don't bring them to Yala. The drivers are very rude and drive too fast. My young daughters got very indecent remarks from them. The guides don't know much about the wildlife, especially when you compare them to the excellent and decent rangers in Kenya. Yala is a rip off.

I have an woeful experience with my young family as most of the guide are uneducated and dirty minded towards ladies and try to rip tourist off where ever they see an opportunity. Not worth a visit to enter the jungle to pay???
