Three Sri Lankan hotels in World’s Best Hotels round up

Traveller Australia, the travel section of the two top Australia newspapers; Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age, included three Sri Lankan hotels in its annual roundup "The best of the best: World's top hotels"

This is perfect timed with the lifting of the Australia travel advisory on Sri Lanka.

Ceylon Tea Trails, Wild Coast Tented Lodge and Cape Weligama were nominated in multiple categories.

Cape Weligama's Smiling Moon Pool was awarded the World's Best Pool with the comment "This might be the most photogenic pool in the world." The iconic Cape Weligama image was even the cover image on the Traveller website.

Australia is an important market for Sri Lanka tourism. Having been shut for an extended period during Covid, outbound travel is set to explode and Sri Lanka should be a significant beneficiary. SriLankan operates nonstop flights to Sydney and Melbourne.

There has been an increase in organic momentum for Sri Lanka after having one property in the Conde Nast Traveller best resorts in the world list (Cape Weligama again) and being recognized as one of the friendliest countries in the world, also by Conde Nast. This augurs well for the winter season.

Nothing wrong with Sri Lanka and it is graced with natural and HUMAN resources but only problem is with its politicians and they have messed up all and destroyed the economy of this country .. Otherwise we would have been far better than Singapore ...22 million Sri Lanka seek justice from these politicians for destroying the lives of these poor Sri Lanka..these old aged politicians think that they could fool the younger generations...if they think so they are wrong . These young people will teach them a lesson in the next election...Next election will be a historical one in Sri Lanka

(Part II) The electorate was not properly educated, trained, emancipated – Concept of UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE, with WISDOM which is lacking in the electorate!!?? 6.9 million – ill advised, devoid of political and worldly knowledge, wisdom to acquire, how to prudently exercise, Universal Franchise – elect “Peoples representative to Parliament who exercise peoples’ Sovereignty and govern in TRUST”!!?? Instead, the emancipated (??) electorate looking for ‘Thanakola’ and/or ‘Punnakku’ eating Meeharaka, to lead them and NONE ELSE??? Their DESIRE, ASPIRATION FULFILLED – Plus 2.5 years, one sees the DISASTEROUS outcome!!?? ‘APOCALYPTIC CATACLYSM’, to borrow the narrative from LSE educated SJB Leader!!?? People get deserving leaders!!

(Part III) Therefore, Voting is a huge responsibility and use it wisely By the time we recover from this DISASTER (10 YEARS) ‘APOCALYPTIC CATACLYSM’, to borrow the narrative from LSE educated SJB Leaders’ (NOT AN ADMIRER) voluminous English language lexicon for a change, Meteoric Singapore would be far ahead, we may not even dream of catching up, let alone overtaking??

Looks like you are living on a different planet my friend. Just a couple of days ago Mahinda Rajapakse proclaimed that his party will win an election even if it is held today. One should read between the lines. With the deep-rooted corruption mismanagement etc., he must have already set the machinery in place to rig the ballots to be able to make such a confident statement. If he can do that just within a few months of his ouster remember he still has more than 20 months, to manupulate, before the next election. Don't be surprised if SLPP gets 3/4th majority with vote rigging (ballots may be already in place ready for swaping). They know well they would be doomed if they loose. So they will go all out on foul play. They are masters. Why not, tri forces

Keep dreaming Lamk- it will one crook replacing another-That's All. You can already see the shameless crowds that attend MR's SLPP revival rally. In any other country the party leader would be sent on compulsory retirement if not jail

SL has been living on debt for ages, 16times to the IMF and we have not got it right ? Seriously does it mean the Donor countries have been happy or have they accepted the corrupt ways because it is to do with geopolitics?

Even Philippines took 40 years to elect a Marcos again, but in paradise people are already thronging to attend MR's rallies You get what you deserve

How can you enjoy your vacation when you see the growing poverty and the displeasure of the population? Even the most beautiful pool doesn't help and the world situation isn't very pleasant at the moment either

My prayers for Ceylon’s future. By the way if you didn’t respect old people that’s wrong but young bloods always wants modernization but I would say you have to avoid extremists otherwise no one will like you. Ceylon was destroyed by filthy bandaranayakei dirty thug. In here I am pointing out I was a fighter with LTTE but now serving for Worlds’ leader you all young blood have to analyze why we all smarts students took the weapons and wondered inside the jungles and dry land sometime without food and drinks for our Mother Land. Advanced warning don’t look us as your enemies. Good Luck.

Sri Lanka’s issues can only be alleviated if we can seriously address some of (there are many others, of course) the following: 1.) Over population (adding severe stress and strain to our very delicate environment, depleting natural resources and destruction of forest cover) 2.) Privatization of SOEs (self explanatory, no need to go into detail) 3.) A complete overhaul of the current inept political culture (self explanatory) 4.) A full reversion to the English medium as a medium of study and practice throughout society (just copy and follow the Singapore model, cut and paste literally) 5.) Reduce spending and wastage on all fronts (run this country like a no frills, low cost airline) and lastly; 6.) Separation of politics and the state from religion and the clergy. Politics and Religion are like oil and water - neither do the mix, nor should they. We are, in essence - a failed state to put it lightly.

Sri Lanka is blessed with well educated people.Sadly the politicians are running our country. Why can't they allow educated people to run our country.

I don't think elections will change the system. New Faces representing old crooks will be elected and will do favours and prevent positive system changes. Civil Society must carefully select honest, clever, moderates with good mind and heart and bring them to parliament. Civil Society must visit every house and explain to even the most illiterate person what politicians have done for 74 years and change their mindset not to be influenced by local clergy to vote for a particular candidate.

Look at all comments above they look all tamil tiger proxies and supporters who always wants sri lanka to fail but sri lanka failed them after eliminating the tamil tigers and allowing those bogus refugees taking asylum in foreign soils and sri lanka is better without them
