Thefts of iron rods and iron nails at Dematagoda, Ratmalana railway yards and bridges are rampant at present and the assistance of the STF will be sought to provide security to these places, Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardane said today.

He told Parliament that organised thefts have increased recently where railway security personnel and police have not been able to control the situation and hence STF assistance needs to be sought to control the situation.

The Minister said stealing of iron rods on railway tracks could even result in derailments and cause disastrous situations.

Responding to a question by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara on the removal of nuts and bolts from the New Kelani Bridge, the Minister said police and CID were conducting an investigation into the incidents.

He said a complete report of the statistics on stolen items and their costs would be submitted to Parliament soon. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Have a look in Bandula Gunawardena’s back yard. He is usually involved with every scam in Sri Lanka.

People are afraid to go to government hospitals. After hearing this news, they will be afraid to go by trains. This is an International conspiracy.

Recently when I visited Sri Lanka from overseas and took a train from Fort Railway Station to Kandy I saw the dilapidated condition of major railway stations at Veyangoda, Polgahawela Rambukana etc. Even part of the roof and name boards had gone missing when I guessed what had happened probably stolen. But there was plenty of junk stored inside those waiting rooms.

Firstly before talking about the island wide robberies by hapless citizens of the country STOP and bring to justice the privileged so called gentlemen who robbed and bankrupted the country. Without shouting get those in high places to set a good example for the people to follow in future.

Why don't they install cctv cameras so that they can monitor without deploying too much man power?

Should catch and give punish those buying those stolen items.

Parana yakada on trees! Tuesday, 18 July 2023 04:52 PM

Bandula! Here is a clue. Check the Parana Yakada collecting center. These guys are all drug users, and will not leave a piece of garden, without collecting all parana yakada pieces. Iron ore is not part of our land product; but we ship parana yakada to India. Are they growing on trees?

Kill the market first. Find out who is buying these and kill it there. Go to these scrap dealers and find out if these items are with them. Go to those who melt iron. Get them first.

The topic was not about rail yards and tracts but the Kelani bridge. Ended as Koheda Yanne Malle Pol.

Why they cannot assign STF to inspect the ministers and their transaction, then all the problem will be solved within a year. Further, GMR can tender the old coaches and sell them, rather than keep them in the Yard.
