The Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports has appointed a new National Rugby Selections Committee, headed by former rugby player Sudath Sampath. The other members of the committee are Duminda de Silva, Alex Nishantha Chanaka, Rajiv Ganapathy, and C.P. Abeygoonawardena.
Sampath is a former player of Isipathana College, Police SC, Kandy SC, and the national sevens team. He is also a qualified coach and has served as the head coach of the Sri Lanka national team.
The new committee will be responsible for selecting the Sri Lankan teams for the upcoming Asian Games and the Asia Rugby Sevens. The Asian Games will be held in China in September 2023, and the Asia Rugby Sevens will be held in South Korea and Thailand in August and September 2023, respectively.
The committee has been given until July 15 to submit its list of players for the Asian Games. The deadline was extended at the request of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The new committee is expected to bring a fresh perspective to Sri Lankan rugby and help the country achieve its goals in the upcoming competitions. (Shamseer Jaleel)
