Sri Lanka is to sell four plots of land in Colombo Port City for an investor to establish a facility for bunkering, a Minister told journalists.
Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, Nimal Siripala de Silva said that they have also called for expression of interest to start an aviation fuel storage facility.
The Minister added that providing fuel for ships and aircraft can play a big role in developing Sri Lanka’s economy, Xinhua news agency reported.
Colombo Port City can bring in more than $5 billion as foreign direct investment in the first five years of operation, he said.
He told the parliament earlier this week that the government will soon gazette laws that govern the port city.
Spanning 269 hectares of reclaimed land from the sea, the port city will comprise five different precincts, including the financial district, central park living, island living, the marina and international island.(IANS)

Excellent investment. With 2700 ships passing Sri Lanka daily this is a worthwhile investment. Approval should be granted to at least 2 more investors for bunkering. Speed if service to be a differentiator.

Don't you think that at the end the profits will go into the investors pockets e.g. Chinese investors? They do not employ Sri Lankans but Chinese immigrants. European and American companies employ locals and offer far better payments, benefits, workcircumstances etc.

There is no provision in the Port City Development plan for Storage facilities. How can they lease lands when it's not an intended use in the plan.

Pipe dreams to distract the community. Here we go another China deal that gets us closer to ChiLanka. High time the Citizens sit up and take notice or the country will go to the dogs, selling off the country!!. Why not go after those who drained the country and its people. bring them before a court of law and recover all the $$$$$ they drained, bringing the country to its knees and the people to near starvation. Better to use bunkering facilities at Hambantota...... Port City is not suitable for bunkering as close to large residential and business premises.

Whatever said here, the reality is that the plots will not be sold only from Port City, suitable plots will be blocked out from other parts of the isalnd, as selected by our loving Chinese helpers during their tour in other provinces. Even the faithful will become crook and look out for Dollars to steal. The Cabinet is made of thieves and their decisions are all in their favour, come whatmay.
