The two relatives of Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who the Daily Mirror reported earlier this week were among individuals who received letters of endorsement from SLC for Australian visas last year, were names put forward by SLC President Shammi Silva, it is learnt.

Last week, a draft of the Auditor General’s report into the expenses incurred by SLC for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia revealed that SLC had spent Rs. 68 million on sending its officials to Australia, while also revealing 35 names of individuals

The names of R A Shanali Dinushika and R A Sarah Dinali, who are believed to be the daughters of the Sports Minister, were among the 21 names that Silva had requested letters of endorsement for.

SLC has maintained that while it did issue letters for visa purposes stating that the individuals were traveling to watch the World Cup it did not fund their trips and the only expenses incurred were for SLC officials.

The Daily Mirror reached out to the Minister for a confirmation of if had indeed made a request for these letters for the two individuals believed to be his daughters, but he did not respond.

The SLC President, when contacted by the Daily Mirror, said that he did not want to comment on the matter.

What right does SLC have to provide sponsor letters to outsiders. Can Shammi Silva explain

    Nihal S Saturday, 29 July 2023 11:34 AM

This is why the Minister is silent. There may be more than just the letter.

This is Sri Lanka where such stuff happens. Shut up and move on, have bigger issues than a letter.

Shammi, Minister and their stooges using SLC as their private house. It is high time SLC team boycott all matches until these fellows are chased away. Hope this will happen which will create a history in the annals of cricket

After issue of such a letter is the Minister not compromised to dance to the dirty tunes of SLC. Much smaller issues have prompted Ministers resignations in real democratic countries. We only all ourselves the Democratic R of SL to hoodwink ourselves.

Appaling situation, funds given to develop cricket in the country, rural youths have talents but haven't any training, these funds could have been utilised for this purpose. All who went to Australia should reimburse the monies spent on them meant for the improvement of cricket in SriLanka.

    A Silly Point Saturday, 29 July 2023 01:04 PM

Corrupt and brainless executives have destroyed Sri Lankan Cricket evident in the recently concluded Test Match series against Pakistan. SL Whiteball Teams have to go through qualifying rounds to enter World Cups.

More to it Sunday, 30 July 2023 07:47 AM

It is the culture of the country and nature of Sri Lankan politicians that causes the problem. Countries which hold integrity above religion and culture like Singapore would never have the same issues.

    Cricketer Saturday, 29 July 2023 01:20 PM

All these Politicians and Officials are crooks. The SLC Office Bearers have held Office for sometime now. They should be asked to file Returns of Assets and Liabilities of themselves and their Families .

It is quite clear that the ordinary Sri Lankan is only provided with the 'luxury' of watching SL cricket at local grounds and on TV. The sons, daughters, mother in laws and cousins of SLCricket and those with political connections can get sanctioning for overseas visits. Getting beaten in monumental proportions in tests and having to qualify alongside Oman and UAE for white ball finals doesn't warrant a tear with such despicable background.

Are you crazy, i send my two daughters out of my own money that i robbed earlier not from SLC. As another minister said, "have you heard people in Sri Lanka rob to get caught". Okkoma nidos kota nidahas. Don't waste time.

    Anthony. R Saturday, 29 July 2023 02:46 PM

They are all, birds of a feather, they will always Flock together. So how can the Minister of Sports check on the SLC board chairman and the directors ? No wonder the culprits are scot-free roaming.

    Fernando Saturday, 29 July 2023 03:11 PM

That's why the minister was speechless and tried to cover up the whole issue.

    DJ Saturday, 29 July 2023 05:26 PM

Why are you all surprised. This is nothing new and it will continue.

    VJ Saturday, 29 July 2023 07:56 PM

This amounts to abuse of authority and unethical, requires the immediate removal of the official. This happens in Sri Lanka and it is normal is not the right approach.

    N V Jen Saturday, 29 July 2023 10:03 PM

Shammi Silva said he will resign if the allegations are proven. Now can he tender his resignation along with the other parasites in the board?

Kundipal Numbandi Sunday, 30 July 2023 02:38 AM

What a wonderful act? they must be awarded nd rewarded many prizes for destroying the SL image throughout the world!

MP Minister then also involved in fringe benefit tricks Sunday, 30 July 2023 03:45 AM

These benefits of getting family members approved for visa is fringe benefit. Maybe those family members could otherwise not be approved to get visa. This is much like the trick of using political influence to get children into big schools, a thoroughly corrupt practice.

    Sinna Sunday, 30 July 2023 02:51 PM

It’s same story in Sri Lanka, Rajapakshas and sons , ranasinhas and daughters ,Rabuka and his secretary Asela, all stealing while competing each other, when exposed, they appointing bogus committees similar to lawyers committee for central bank scam when mother Lanka raises her head out of this shit hole

Gon namba Sunday, 30 July 2023 03:24 PM

So the ministeraya have sold his two daughters to that old chipmunk who owns an infamous hospital?

    Chulan Sunday, 30 July 2023 08:56 PM

So now all 225 will be silent , end of so called debate

    Nimal Monday, 31 July 2023 07:25 AM

We can now understand why the minister is turning a blind eye to the sordid affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket. Spineless dirty scoundrels.

    Adam Monday, 31 July 2023 03:50 PM

This should be reported to ICC and all these SLCricket governing officials should be band and not allowed to stand for election again for SL cricket.
