Newly sworn in SJB MP A. H. M. Fowzie, who participated in the debate on the policy statement of President Ranil Wickremesinghe despite his party’s decision to boycott the debate, said he will exercise his responsibility towards the nation.

“I will sincerely fulfil the responsibility towards the nation rather than thinking of politics,” he said.

“I am glad that I have been given the opportunity to serve the nation and I thank those who voted for me. I obtained around 30,000 prefernaial votes without appointing any polling agents and without even visiting counting centres like others,” he added.

He recalled his past and related how he was elected the Mayor of Colombo and won a vote of confidence despite opposition by his own party members. “Late President JR Jayewardene defended me but had to given into pressure mounted by some other UNPers who represented Colombo District during that time,” he recalled.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

May be having hopes of a Cabinet Portfolio being offered by Ranil and hence not bothered by DIRECTIVES from SJB now.

We advised him to stay at home look after the grandchildren. But these politicians without any principle hang on to these posts forever. But he is good pole vaulter jumping from one party to another but doing for the country. Government servants are sent home at 60 but these fellows eat, sit and sleep-in so-called Parliament.
