Fuel amounting to Rs.1.5 billion has lost due to the traffic congestion in Colombo and suburbs after the country returned to normalcy today, the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said.
He told the Daily Mirror that this was the highest loss ever recorded after two years.
"No proper public transport methods were implemented to meet the demand. Most of the private and the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses were unable to be assigned for transport due to repairs," he said.
The buses were operated at a speed of 4 to 5 kilometres per hour in the Colombo city.
"Before two years it was reported as Rs.1 billion fuel loss and now it had increased by another 0.5 million due to adhoc planning. About 60 percent public transport is operating in the country and most of the private vehicles have now come on to the roads," he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Even today, at the bridge @ Kolonnawa refinery. When i was passing there was a huge traffic, when I returned after 3.5 hours still it was the same. The cops were standing at the wrong point and controlling. But the govt is telling us to reduce usage. Absurd!

Simply accept you don't have money to import fuel and gas without telling cock-n-bull stories. Last 2 years, there are less vehicle on the road due to pandemic. Also traffic congestion in Colombo is a norm for the last 25 years similar to other countries.
