The country will have to keep under certain restrictions until the month of December this year in order to curb people's unnecessary movement, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardane said.

He told reporters today that people seem to be taking things for granted which is evident with their behaviour during the weekend.

“This the very situation that we witnessed during the last New Year season where people started to go on picnics and pilgrimages making the COVID situation dreadful,” he said.

“The public will have to act with a sense of responsibility in order to keep coronovirus at bay,” Dr. Gunawardane added.

Hence, he appealed to the people to strictly adhere to health practices despite being vaccinated and added the restrictions would have to be carried on until the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said it was not appropriate to allow running the public transport service now in a situation where the people will be least bothered about the health rules. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

I agree. Please see that there is only one window for information and guidance on COVID-19 prevention. Do not every Dick Tom and Harry make statements. Special mentions are the clowns from the PHI unions. They just need to carry out orders from qualified professionals.

The citizens will rise against the rulers if restriction continues. Pay attention to vaccination.

Yes; it is advisable to continue with inter-district travel restrictions for a few more weeks. Also, be pro-actice; Decide NOW

Stop telling lies. What do you expect from local people, if Tourists have no restrictions?

    Samson Monday, 18 October 2021 07:54 PM

No purpose of restrictions if there is no follow up or supervision.

Elen Perera Monday, 18 October 2021 10:35 PM

Asela Gunawardane is inducing fear in peoples lives, so people won’t uprise against the government. He is a mouthpiece of Rajapaksa’s He is aiding and abetting this government to suppress suffering people.

    Manoj R Tuesday, 19 October 2021 08:01 AM

Yes, it is better to continue restrictions till year end, particularly during the festive season of December, which may trigger another outbreak

    Sivaponniah Tuesday, 19 October 2021 08:03 AM

Restrictions are not necessary since 50% people are vaccinated. Only to see that people wear face mask and do not crowd in public places. There is need for more checks and supervision by Police.

Bhatiya Siriwardena Tuesday, 19 October 2021 08:12 AM

I fully agree that restrictions have to continue. Some Comments above itself prove that our people need descipline. People act freely not caring the danger. On the other hand lives must go on. So have a balance. Not only in SL, world over this is the trend. Tourist are allowed to come, so people think why not us? It is reasonable no? The government has no clear idea, Strategy.

Employees report for work from distant places in overcrowded conveyances and you are not bothered of the public predicament but you say the public is not bothered of health regulations. Practice what you Preach

Anne Karunaratne Tuesday, 19 October 2021 09:04 AM

    Stop inviting tourists!

    Sandamali Tuesday, 19 October 2021 09:47 AM

Only poor people are suffering, because of these restrictions. They have to go to work place somehow. Inter province buses are filled without any space.if your government want to keep these restrictions do proper method for workers.

muthutantri fernando Tuesday, 19 October 2021 11:46 AM

You need to introduce the buses and trains. How can people work? You open workplaces, but not transport. But all who travel by cars go visiting and holiday as well. You should control those activities, not people going to work.

    Martin Tuesday, 19 October 2021 12:59 PM

Yeah, they can sit in AC rooms in Colombo and blabber about restrictions. There are thousands of people dependent on travel facilities and normalcy of day to day life. Time to learn to live with Covid and get back to normal life. If this continues- the economic damage would more than Covid and we’ll become the next Zimbabwe
