The All Island Canteen Owners' Association (AICOA) urged its members to hit anyone with hot water, waste water or with their fried rice mixture pan if they refuse to pay their bills.
AICOA chief Asela Sampath said so while condemning the incident where veteran singer Saman de Silva had been involved in a fight with the staff of a restaurant.
Sampath urged restaurant and canteen owners to give the maximum punishment to anyone for not paying bills after having their meals.
"I order the restaurant and canteen owners to hit such people with hot water or waste water in the restaurant. Or directly hit the faces of such people with the fried rice mixture pan to flatten their faces," he said,
"Do not give free food to anyone. The hotel and canteen owners prepare their foods with great difficulty.
"Some state officers, police officers, public health officers, consumer affairs officers and politicians usually get their meals without paying for it," he said.
Singer Saman Silva and a group had visited a restaurant in Panadura on Saturday night (01) and ordered some food.
Later, a heated argument had taken place between Mr. Silva and the restaurant employees, and following that, he had tried to leave without paying the bill.
Several employees of the restaurant were injured in the incident, and some items in the restaurant were damaged. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

It is a shocking revelation where government officials partronize these canteens and do not pay for their food. Isn't it shameful for these officials when there is a code of coduct operating in the government service. The high officials in these organisations should enforce strictures on all staff otherwise they are no better than beggars. However, beggars for their needs they beg which is more respectable than these respectable parasites. It is a shame for reputed singers of the 1970's to tarnish their image in not paying the bill under any circumstances although belated he can foot the bill.

If the advise given by Asela Sampath to assault the customer in the ways he suggested, that is criminal and there could be criminal charges filed against the hotel staff. I will not advice to assault the customers. Take photos of them is possible and lodge complaints with Police providing the photos for Police to investigate

If that does not work, make it go viral. There is no reason to assault a person unless you want to end up in jail. These are the kind of thugs running these unions.

This "free food and drink" for the politicians and cops has been a practice for as long as I can remember!
