The UNP’s call for formulating a national policy to revive the country’s economy, should have been done when they were in power, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP J. C. Alawathuwala said yesterday.
Mr. Alawathuwala was referring to the remarks made by UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardene who said a national policy has to be formulated and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will revive the economy in 48 hours if he is appointed as the Prime Minister.
“Mr. Wickremesnghe should have done what he pledges to do now when he was in power,” he said.
“It was former Minister Abeywardene who allowed the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to listen to the cabinet meeting during the Yahapalana government through his phone,” Mr. Alawathuwala added.
“These people are the ones who are engaged in deals with the government. The deal is exposed when you count the number of security personal provided to them. We are MPS and are given only two security personnel whereas people like Mr. Abeywardene have been given at least six security personnel including SPs. Even former Minister Sagala Ratnayake has been given more security personnel than us though they are not MPs,” he also said.
Mr. Abeywardene who was referring to the decision made by government to provide an allowance of Rs. 5000 to chosen people for the New Year, said this amount is hardly sufficient when considering the cost of living. (Yohan Perera)

Everyone in politics of Sri Lanka wants to take the fully advantage of the current situation in Sri Lanka, hence the mudslinging. No one really seems to care about the struggling citizens. It is all about gaining power in politics becuase in Sri Lanka (unlike developed countries), if you become a politician, you can live like a king and on top of that the law doesn't apply to you.

RW never had full control, first it was with CBK and then with MS. Both were interfering the wrong way. Tell me another leader with the experience, brains, knowledge, statesmanship, international recognition to even come close to RW? Issue is Sri Lankan voters are driven by emotion and see where the country is at !

Anyway thank you. You added one more brick, when revealed that MR was listening to cabinet meetings of RW through his henchmen. This shows how much RW was restrained in addition to MS, Sajith and other turn coats in running the government, We are surprised that he survived physically, knowing the fact that RW did not give importance to his personal protection.
