The controversial Malwana mansion is a property of the State now and it was set on fire during the Aragalaya time without knowing that it is a State property, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said today.

He told Parliament that Cabinet approval was granted to take over the Malwana property by the Justice Ministry and the process is now underway.

"When I learnt through the newspapers that no party has claimed ownership of the Malwana property, I submitted a Cabinet Paper the following day to take it over to the Justice Ministry. It was approved by the Cabinet. The process is moving foward slowly. It will be taken over by the Justice Ministry. Unfortunately, the Aragalaya activists set it on fire, may be while being unaware that it is a State property now," he said.

The Minister said this while responding to a statement on the Malwana mansion by NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Sam panditha Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:00 PM

As justice minister, he can release the deeds of the 2 previous owners. How come a private property becomes srate

    Gamini Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:10 PM

If you have submitted a cabinet paper now, how do you say Aragalaya knew it was state property

Quo vadis Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:11 PM

Anyone with half a brain knows who spent money to build the palace in that property. Justice minister is displaying to the world how justice works in the blunder of Asia.

    Andare Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:14 PM

What is the Justice Ministry planning to do with the Property ? Like selling off the Lanka Hospitals, SLT etc., this can also be sold and may be a buyer like Basil might tender ?

    Sakya Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:16 PM

honestly track all such properties and acquire them but expose the owners and the source of their income if ill-gotten being an attention seeking minister file case and punish

    Ram Thursday, 06 July 2023 03:17 PM

This is just a 0 .001% the money looted by the Raja family. It was not claimed when the Kaputa could not explain the funds. There are many more in Colombo in their names and in the names of their friends. Get the owners to explain how they had the money to buy them and rest is likely to happen

Claiming is it as a state property is sufficient? why not sort out the corruption involved in this house, seems trying to coverup crooks, because they are political big shots

Malwanana property is build on public money. Wijayadasa is trying to cover up the sins committed by Rajapakshas. This property must be sold and money must go to government treasury. Wijayadasa is one of the biggest liar in the cabinet.

    Buddhist Thursday, 06 July 2023 04:56 PM

What a crap! Didn't Wijedasa know that it was in the courts that Kaputa said the property is not his? This is another deal with Kaputa, will the Govt compensate Kaputa in the future? Is Govt going to spend money to restore the building? Is Govt going to auction it back to Kaputa?

    Muhandiram Thursday, 06 July 2023 05:32 PM

Is Wijedasa Rajapakse is trying to protect the 'Rajapakse' name because it is also his Name?

Who ever who destroyed the property committed an economic crime like the same way who ever who spent the undocumented money to build it. Those who destroyed the property are hailed as heros. Ultimately the property will be repaired and dollars will be required to replace the items destroyed. Fantastic Aragalaya. We also saw how Aragalaya guys went to Umandawa and destroyed some of the properties there. Are these the kind of people we want to replace the current thieves.

Short sighted your not seeing how property does not have ownership records anymore Thursday, 06 July 2023 09:24 PM

Have you lost sight of the fact the property has mysteriously lost ownership. That all records about ownership seem to be overlooked now? If there are no government records that are legitimate then anyone can bring about fake deeds without nothing to check against. The Aragalaya was nothing compared to the frauds being done by the elected officials and bureaucrats they employ.

To prepare an accurate title report for this property must be quite simple as the title transfers had taken place in recent times. Land registry records need publicizing so the public knows what's going on and whoever is trying to end this matter rapidly to escape publicity must be brought to justice. Abandoning stolen goods does not give immunity to thieves who have committed serious offenses requiring long prison sentences so they never ever get the CHANCE TO REPEAT THESE ACTS. tHEY HAVE ROBBED THE COUNTRY WITHOUT ANY REGARD TO THE LAW OR THE PEOPLE.

Hon.Justice Minister, Please don't provide jokes.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Thursday, 06 July 2023 08:44 PM

Why not probe architects of Malwana mansion, did it fall from heaven, who built it with whose money, how this money was earned, these questions need answers. These unanswered areas bring shame on the government and the intelligence authorities etc.

    Jakolis Friday, 07 July 2023 03:54 AM

The people know that all RAJAPAKSA’s were average citizens with small means. They have robbed the country is no secret. KAPUTA owns more one in MATARA BROWNS HILL is a prime property the crook who should be behind bars owns. With hardly any education he was made Minister of Finance to succeed the ace crook Mahinda. The wealth of the whole clan must be probed for that it has to be a new government minus RW.

Call the Scotland Yard or Interpol to find out who paid for the construction of the malwana mansion!??? It's a mistery and IRONIC. They're May be More than HUNDRED people who know exactly who paid for the material to build the mansion. Find out the contractor and everyone who build the mansion and arrest them!!

    raja Friday, 07 July 2023 09:31 AM

State property means property of rajapakshas

    RR Friday, 07 July 2023 10:46 AM

WE THE PUBLIC WANT TO KNOW THE OWNERS OF THIS PROPERTY AS BR WAS BUILDING THE MANSION. ALSO GOVT SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND PUNISH THE OWNERS WHO STARTED TO BUILD THIS MANSION

    D.M.C. Fernandopulle (attorney-at-law) Friday, 07 July 2023 11:29 AM

Wijedasa are you washing clothes to Ranil or Mahinda? Don't talk bull shit, we know the facts.

Dr. Amal Ranasinghe Friday, 07 July 2023 11:30 AM

Next time after few months, Wijedasa will claim that that Mansion is belongs to him. What a joke.

Sarath Silva Friday, 07 July 2023 03:56 PM

Definitely the Land Registry should maintain records of deeds of the properties whether state owned or privately owned. Therefore, the land registry cannot deny that they don't know the current and previous ownerships of the property. Mind you, it's not a vacant land a mansion had been built on it. Prior to commence building the architect need to draw the plan as per the owner's instruction and he/she has to get paid for the work done. Then, once start building the builder need to get paid progress payment or (full payment in advance) that's not the standard practice. Therefore, the question is how come that no one can find out who the current owner of the property is??? If you cannot find out following gathering information from aforesaid then it's got to be something drastically wrong with the system.

Mohamed Adham Friday, 07 July 2023 06:21 PM

Why doesn't this great so called Justice Minister tell the nation as to who the ACTUAL OWNERS of this Mansion are ? Surely there would be Deeds, Architechts who built this luxury mansion, Contractors who brought Cement, Sand and other construction material. Why this hide and seek from the Minister ? Surely tomorrow they will say they will AUCTION this mansion to collect much needed financial resources for the State , and the actual mystery owner ( the whole country knows who the actual owner is ) will bid and take control of it for peanuts. Case closed. This is what is going to happen in this case.

    Sambo Friday, 07 July 2023 08:18 PM

People don't trust politicians statements any more. Prove it first.

Tissa Fernando Saturday, 08 July 2023 04:32 AM

The man who responded with a longest name starting with 'short sighted..' is missing the point. If you think Kaputa spent money to build it , then prove it by publishing the details. The self claimed oracle of the nation Mr AKD may have a file on this too but he too has not disclosed anything useful.
