The conduct of elections to the local authorities will cost at least Rs.10 billion, an official said.
The official who insisted on anonymity told Daily Mirror that at least Rs.7 billion was spent for the last parliamentary elections in 2020. He said the prices of fuel had galloped since then.
“When we calculate the cost of everything from fuel to allowances for officials deployed to carry out duties related to the elections, it will roughly cost Rs. 10 billion this time,” he said.
However, he said sufficient allocations had been made to the Election Commission in the budget to conduct polls if declared. (Kelum Bandara)

Why not you hold all elections one go...Do presidential; general election and local elections at one go one day ...you save money and ask all returning officers to work freely only this time due to economic crisis ...Take volunteers nationwide...crook politicians may need this money for some fraud purpose in this election...Do not let that happen this time ..let people have their say and let us see some good people come to power
Local government no point until member count reduced Thursday, 29 December 2022 11:59 AM
Why hold so many elections? There is through waste with local elections to elect 8000 plus members. Other two, Parliamentary and Presidential have strong public interest, for having political change. Local government elections will just drain government funds, especially after 8000 plus start pulling on every local government allowance there is to enrich themselves.

I am sure you can get enough public servants to volunteer to work at a general election without extra pay, which would be a large chunk of normal expenses. The elections MUST be held when due. It just cannot be postponed until Sri Lanka clears all its external debts and reduce inflation to UK level!

At present country doesn't need any polls for at least another 10 year's, let Ranil rules build up the economy, get stronger then think about polls until all political parties must fully cooperates with him, all nationalities must support this task, forget the differences future Lanka will be a better one.

ADB is not willing to give money to SL government since it is consisting of high grade thieves and no mandate to rule. So, no humanitarian aids to SL. Therefore, conclusion is to have elections to seek the mandate and to make internationally acceptable government.

The cost of LG Polls is just 1/5th of Sugar Tax Robbery and less than 1% of Central Bank Robbery. Even the cost of holding a General Election will be negligible compared to robberies carried out by Rajapaksas. If holding elections is the only way to expose a large number of robberies carried out by ex and current politicians, it can be justified to spend some money to get rid of corrupt and dumb politicians.
