Claiming that the government is using the Covid-19 pandemic to cover up its failures, the National People's Power (NPP) said today that the people are not prepared to believe such lame excuses any more.
NPP MP Vijitha Herath told Parliament that the governments in the past used the war to cover up their failures and inability to perform.
Speaking during the adjournment debate on the President's policy statement, he said the President's policy statement was mainly on his failures during the last two years and pledges to deliver during the next three years.
"The country is engulfed in numerous issues today. People have suffered from gas and fertilizer issues. Prices of rice and vegetables is steadily going up. These issues have no links with covid pandemic. Other countries in the region have recorded healthy economic growth despite the pandemic. For example, Bangladesh has recorded an economic growth of over 3% and foreign reserves of over US$ 40 billion," he said.
MP Herath said the President made a desperate attempt to convince the international community that the government had not violated human rights and added that it is not easy to hoodwink the international community.
"The government has violated human rights seriously. Proroging parliament and postponing LG polls are violation of human rights in the first place. Killing elevan inmates of the Mahara prison was also a serious violation of human rights," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Thanks Vijitha and the JVP for exposing the misdeeds of the this sagging government. It is the duty of the JVP to remove the loincloth worn by this regime. We can not expect much from the SJB as some of there MPs want to get together and fxxx us up.

The most rich people in the world got more rich, the most poor people got poorer during the pandemic. Economics in rich Europe is florising despite the pandemic. I guess it must be because of the severe corruption and selfishness worldwide. How can rich leaders in poor countries watch the suffering of the poor with dry eyes? I support 4 families in Sri Lanka, what more can I do? I am an atheïst, but I hope some day justice will be done.

Your speech in the parliament was outstanding, I am sure the president must have watched and listened.
