Fr. Jeewantha Peiris today filed a Fundamental Rights petition in Supreme Court seeking an order preventing police and tri-forces from arresting him regarding Galle Face protest incidents.
The petitioner states he joined the “GotaGoGama” protest from about April 09, 2022 and thereafter he became an active participant in the protest in order to bring justice to the people who were made to suffer by the Government led by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The petitioner states after the “GotaGoGama” was destroyed by armed forces, he came to know from the evening television news broadcasts of July 25 that the police have obtained a travel ban against him. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

When you engage in protests of this destructive nature, you have to be prepared to get arrested. Why is he scared now?? If it is necessary, arrest him, irrespective of the fact that he's a clergyman.

No don't do that Fr. Pieris. Because, it needs to be seen whether you will be pardoned by President for being a Catholic Priest in a similar manner they pardoned Sinhalese Buddhist Thug Priest Gnanasara. This is and important Test between Sinhalese Buddhists and Sinhalese Catholics.

What about the Rajapaksa’s! Will they be also arrested. The President should first get the money stolen by them before negotiations with IMF.

Nothing to worry is he has done nothing to contravene the laws of the land. He could just go in and tell them as it was, and he could walk out. However if he had gone against the law then he needs to be concerned. 'Peaceful Aragalaiests' advocated for abiding by the law.
