Not only 8 but release all of them for good . This country has suffered a lot by the political terrorism of these rulers as it did at the hand of LTTE...there is a little different between these two terrorism...LTTE was an open terrorism but these political leaders are official approved political terrorists with false promises and publics are fooled by them. Do we know if those released are actual LTTE carders or if those young Tamils have been detinned over the doubts which happen lots? if the JVP can become good guys why can't rehabilitation LTTE can't be good guys ..? Some of the comments indicate they are not against the terrorism just against the minority .. Come on war ended a decade ago and why cant you forget and forgive and include all of them to develop the country

What were there crimes??? Another officer was released by presidential pardon who was sentenced for killing civilians. It was certainly disgraceful where discipline is concerned. A crook can be disciplined and pardon but an appointed paid officer should be severely punished to maintain an organization status.

@scarborough: LTTE is the by product of Sinhala racism and injustice in SL. Unlike SL govt forces, LTTE was a highly disciplined organization that sacrificed their lives for the cause. No one can blame LTTE for raping a single woman during the 30 years. Whereas SL army went on rampage of raping Tamil women.

Must agree with the comment made by relative of the LTTE. Racist leaders in power created LTTE, it was done to win votes of the majority community. It is being done even today. Not many would like to find reasons for the creation of the LTTE. The war was one of the reasons we are poor today. Releasing all political prisoners would be a good start for future reconciliation, it must be done genuinely and honestly not just to win votes. Rajapakshes will use this to win votes for their racist party for sure.
