The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued an order for the removal of protestors and structures that cause inconvenience to the public at MainaGoGama near Temple Trees.
The Court had issued this order on May 2 subsequent to a request made by Kollupitiya police alleging that the protestors are causing obstructions to pedestrians and regular vehicle movements since they installed temporary structures in the vicinity.
When this matter came up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake through a motion, the Additional Magistrate questioned the police as to why they failed to comply with the court order. Accordingly, the Additional Magistrate ordered the police to show cause, explaining as to why they failed to comply with the court order dated 2nd of May, 2022. The matter will be taken up again on May 9. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
