A drastic rise in the spread of COVID-19 has been noticed in the Gampaha and Colombo districts in recent time, State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics, and COVID-19 Disease Control Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle said.
Dr. Fernandopulle said if the Omicron variant has led to the rapid spread,a larger proportion of infected cases are asymptomatic.
"Increase of asymptomatic cases could be detrimental to the health of the elderly and those suffering from other long-term and non-communicable diseases," she emphasised.
"In such a situation, receiving the booster dose is of high priority as it strengthens one's immunity," she added.
The two districts have been identified as COVID hotspots since the beginning of the pandemic and what's concerning is that the spread of COVID-19 is continuing to grow in the said districts. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Does this mean that the main vaccine used in Sri Lanka, namely Sinopharm has a low efficacy. Can you please make public the efficacy of all the vaccines used in Sri Lanka. This is normal practice in other parts of the world. My the way, what was the number of doses obtain from the WHO under the COVAX program?20% as you bragged in parliament at the onset of the pandemic in Sri Lanka. Come clean Madam.
