A millionaire businessman was taken into custody by the Police Children and Women Bureau on suspicion of the alleged rape of a female employee at a five-star hotel in Colombo.

Police said the businessman was the owner of an agency sending young men and women to European countries for higher education and that the victim was one of his employees.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had informed her to attend a meeting organized by his institution at the hotel and that she had called over at the hotel as required by him. The suspect had already reserved a meeting hall in the hotel and when the young woman entered it he had locked the doors and raped her.

However, he told police that the young woman came to the hotel with him voluntarily.

The suspect was arrested during investigations of the victim’s complaint. She was admitted to hospital for a medical examination.

OIC Children and Women Bureau CI Samanthika is conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP Buddhika Manatunga and DIG Renuka Jayasundara. (Srinath Prasanna Jayasuriya)

something very fishy here. If she was raped in the meeting room of a 5 start hotel, how come none of the employees heard any scream or shouts

If a business man who can do such clever act like this, then this can’t be a one isolated incident and the police should ask others to come forward and lodge a complaint. He should be behind bars for sometime

The key word here is "millionaire". The case will be stalled, then delayed, postponed endlessly and eventually the victim would be too tired and frustrated to proceed with court action. One law for them another for......

Detrimental punishment should be enforced as this type of activity is getting out of hand as the enforcers of the law show a blind eye with money exchanged for their release. These maniacs when they go abroad are dealt severely since the law in those countries are applied without delay. We need the law enforcers to be proactive instead of applying the Deaf Dumb and Blind motto.
