In a fresh move to scuttle the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, the loyalists of MP Basil Rajapaksa on Monday insisted at the government’s group meeting that bringing about economic stability should be prioritized instead of expending energy on constitutional changes, Daily Mirror learns.

However, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa emphasized that it should be incorporated into the Constitution. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also spoke for it.

Among the MPs who spoke against the 21st Amendment are Chintaka Mayadunna, Sarath Weerasekara and Nalaka Godahewa. They said the government should focus more on addressing economic grievances.

However, MP Nimal Lansa, Tourism Minister Harin Fernando and others viewed that it should be enacted in keeping public sentiments. Mr. Lansa said public opinion is in favour of such constitutional changes and it should be respected. (Kelum Bandara)

a clear example that most of the Sri Lankan politicians are more concerned about their own future as the future and survival of the country. It gives us also a clear picture which one's should be sorted out and made sure that they never again enter politics.

Those who vote against the 21 st amendment will not be able to go back to their villages in a life time. You have paid for your foul mouth statements you made in parliament.

Finding solutions for the economic crisis and constitutional changes are two different aspects and require two separate actions of two different groups. So, no any hindrance to one another.
