MP Ali Sabry Raheem has engaged in a political game by voting against the resolution to remove the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, SJB MP Field Marshal Sarath Fokseka charged today.

“Ali Sabry Raheem who was charged with smuggling gold was made to vote against the government to show that he was not being safeguarded by the government. The MP was made to vote against the resolution as a political game. We vehemently oppose the presence of MP Ali Sabry Raheem in this House after smuggling gold,” Field Marshal Fonseka said.

He said the incident of Pastor Jerome who made provocative statements is also being used to gain political mileage.

“We would like to tell the people not to be misled by these kinds of episodes,” MP Fonseka said.

Also the MP defended the Aragalaya and said a peaceful unarmed revolution is needed to put the country on the right track.

“I know some MPs are scared of the aragalaya. This is why they blame the Aragalaya members for rape of minors and running brothels,” he alleged. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Aragalaya was genuine until some politically motivated peratugami fellows and JVP junta s portrayed themselves as its leaders. if the gold smuggling MP is fron the MNP Muslim National Party, it is the party's responsibility to punish him and make him resign his seat. why blame the government?

Some MPs of this Community cannot be trusted.They work for their personal benefit and not in the interest of their Community or the Country. A few examples are, when the 18th Amendment was introduced by MR, the ones who enabled it to be passed were the Rauf Hakeem and his Muslim Congress. When the 20th Amendment needed a few votes to make up the two- third, it is some such fellows who were in the Opposition who jumped to help Gota to pass it. In recent times see what Fouzie did . He didn't abide by his Party decision . It must however be made clear that this sickness is not endemic in the whole Community as most of them scruplously keep to principles.

End of the day people have vote for educated, discipline and experience members to the parliament, local councils and provincial councils the way srilankan politicians behaving after the Aragalaya corruption and indiscipline would continue whether we like it or not this is a serious issue.

Best thing for the MP to do is resign! Doesn’t reflect well on him - when he maintains a colleague ‘passed’ on the consignment without his knowledge. At least act honorable now - and be a good example for all MPs
