SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam urged Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to act maturely without being childish regarding the matters involving the Parliamentary Committee to probe reasons for the country's financial bankruptcy.

He said the Speaker has appointed those who are committed to truth-seeking and have the potential to do so as the members of the committee.

"If a select committee of this nature acts on political agendas, it will not do any good to the country or the people. There are various opinions about the reasons for the bankruptcy of the country. This Committee is appointed with the objective of achieving that. Both Government and Opposition MPs have a duty and responsibility to summon all the responsible parties and question them and reveal the truth to the people,” Kariyawasam said.

He said if there was any issue involving the Committee, it should be resolved within the committee and that the Opposition should not act immaturely and play with people’s lives instead of resolving their issues.

The MP said the committee was appointed following the request of the government side and that the Opposition also moved a proposal regarding the matter.

“However, the Opposition delayed for a month to nominate their representatives to the Committee. They sent in their nominees only after the matter was raised in the Parliament Business Committee meeting several times,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

SLPP Sagara what ever means wearing pants

    roni Monday, 17 July 2023 06:37 PM

Sagara. firstly, under the rule of which party did the country go bankrupt. Under which ruling party were taxes reduced on Sugar Palm oil etc, to pay back stooges. If the answer is yes, this committee cannot be chaired by SLPPer, as that person has party interest and knows their members will be rejected at the next elections when reasons are revealed. So you use your mental facilities first.

We don't need committees to find out why the country went bankrupt. Another waste of time and tax payers money wasted. The entire country already knows why we went bankrupt.

what a load of CRAP, every man and his dog wants a FULL INDEPENDENT INQUIRY as to WHO are ALL those responsible for the downfall of the Country, to ensure those responsible are brought before a court of law. WHY has this VITAL fact not been investigated up to now??. Sorry, but you are living in a fools paradise if you think the masses are going to be duped once again. All TALK and NO action, you lot are a disgrace to mankind and a curse to society. If you lot think oiling the palms of the poor uneducated people in villages and making false promises are going to work this time, think again!!!.
