No wonder reasons being no education followed by discipline. Min education should be in place for a driving or riding license and that should be extended to lawmakers as well.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Saturday, 08 January 2022 07:50 PM

Lane discipline is paramount important. Threewheelers disobey all road rules. Speed limits should be strictly adhered. More traffic police officers should be inducted. Assistance of three forces should be drawn to assist the police.

    Iwazaru Saturday, 08 January 2022 08:04 PM

These accidents happen due to lack of discipline stating from Montessori onwards.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Saturday, 08 January 2022 08:23 PM

Seek assistance of the three forces, induct more traffic police officers, Discipline Three-wheelers, lane rule, speed limits etc to be strictly imposed. Peak hours and off peak hours too be manned by traffic police. During off peak hours maximum violation of traffic rules take place .

Most accidents are due to speed. Minister who has time to go and threaten prisoners cannot order all heavy vehicles and busses to be installed with speed control devices.

Fatima Lai Sunday, 09 January 2022 01:03 AM

Bikes and youngsters - parents to be blamed. Other bikers, three-wheelers hand over their lives to the responsibility of other drivers. Most of them know they are wrong, but it seems they trust because of other drivers they will be saved. Then, bus drivers, know that because of their vehicle size others won't get closer to them when they take a wrong turn or drive recklessly.

    Ranaweera Sunday, 09 January 2022 01:17 AM

Three wheelers and motorcycles.also private buses and lorries. These are the major actors causing road accidents. There is no discipline at all.

Why not come up with a booster shot to halt accidents? Can save so many lives!

No proper guidance, discipline or relevant safe procedure education at all levels are missing in this country. Reason for the lack of those aspects are due to grubby politicians and self cantered clergy in the country.

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER Sunday, 09 January 2022 08:05 AM

So long pedestrians, bike riders tuk Tuk ,bus drivers don't maintan discipline lot more accidents are bound to happen.DIDCIPLINE IS THE KEY WORD.!!!

    Rukshan Sunday, 09 January 2022 08:33 AM

Why is everyone so quick to blame the drivers and their vehicles? While agreeing that there should be discipline in driving and adherence to road rules. I believe that people who cross the roads should be educated in the correct way of crossing. So many occasions where even at the crossing they just cross without waiting for the vehicle to stop. Sometimes even driving at 30kmph and 10 feet away, There is no opportunity or warning for drivers to slow down gradually to prevent skidding. Vehicles cannot magically halt within an inch. Other instances include where they just cross when the traffic lights are green for vehicles and red for them. Also usage of mobile phones when crossing the street which I believe is not allowed. Unfortunately because pedestrians don’t follow basic discipline and common sense approach the vehicle driver has to face consequences. Hope there is proper education and rules implemented for pedestrians as well.

Indiscipline is evident not only amongst the motorists but in the entire society. The one who should lead and set an example is the first citizen.

    vince Sunday, 09 January 2022 01:30 PM

That is a big ask. It will never happen.

Certified Trainers should train the learner drivers before sending them for test and also the invigilators adopting vigilant assessment without compromising

Speed kills! Soon everyone understands will be better. People drive like there is no tomorrow.

    Jef Sunday, 09 January 2022 05:44 PM

You can't educate uncivilized magority of road users first how this people have licence they don't have basic common sence you give them a vehicle whats going to happen they will crash and will create accidents three wheels bikes are the worst offenders most of them drive like snakes running on roads speeding creeping overtaking got no road rules you have two lanes 3 to 4 vehicles trying to overtake each other its not only the young ones its all ages ..you never see police pooling up public road misuses government must look in to this very seriously just beacouse you can drive or ride you shouldn't given licence road rules driving conditions speed limits overtaking right away how to turn right or left basic thing's should be thought to drive you must have the ability to read

No safety Sunday, 09 January 2022 06:09 PM

The reason for more road accidents is, no harsh punishments for the culprits.

Little Flower Sunday, 09 January 2022 06:41 PM

Yes, just as Jude says, perhaps empty stomach, and perhaps other pandemic contributing factors such as no proper oxygen flow to brains with over use of masks... some drivers double masked...

Anne Karunaratne Sunday, 09 January 2022 07:06 PM

Most accidents happen on the white/yellow lines. When one vehicle stops for a pedestrian another will take over! Bikes are the worst. Why can't the traffic police catch these offenders, after all there are CCTV cameras all over now. Why wait until an accident takes place??

    ram Sunday, 09 January 2022 07:56 PM

if traffic police do 25% of their duty properly country can be saved from traffic accidents.
